NORWEGIAN HERITAGE ANNUAL PARTY

Congratulations to the 25 Scandinavians who hosted a terrific Annual party on March 7, 2015.  I talked with Beth Elton, and was given this report.
“A year ago at the Apache Wells Annual Golf outing, Beth mentioned to Elaine Christianson, that we should do a Norwegian party for next year’s annual end of the year party.  She said, sure, good idea, and we were on our way.  I never thought it would be easy.  I had heard that it was tough to get people to do that event.  Then Jean Halvorson also agreed to help, and we had the start of an awesome committee.  Everyone volunteered not only to be on a committee, but to each take charge of it.  Virgil agreed to do the program which was the biggest concern.  It was the easiest committee I have ever chaired.  Each did their part and worked hard.  Added to the Halvorson’s, Christianson’s, and Elton’s, were:  Byron Johnson’s, Martin Aaser, Erie’s, Jim Erickson’s, Martinson’s, Seehasfer’s, Paul and Lori? (Twins of Darlene,) Femrite’s, Gene and Marilyn Larson, and Joyce and Paul Hauge.”
Yours truly is not Scandinavian, but the food sure hit the spot with me.  The hors d’ oeuvres of herring, flat bread, cheese and crackers were just the ticket to start things off, as we played Viking Trivia.
Four of the eight guests at our table were Norwegian, and knew all the Trivia answers.  Dorothy Joynt arrived just in time to win the Viking’s cookie jar, and promptly presented it to our new Norwegian table friends, Don and Sharon, Carol and Dick.
Leana and friends entertained us with her wonderful Norwegian jokes and songs.  We hope when she retires she will re-locate in the Village.  The main course Norwegian meal was just perfect:  Lafse, boiled potatoes, meat balls and gravy, carrots, cole slaw, and sweet pickles.  And if we were not sweet enough already, we were served Rosettes, Krumkake, Spritz cookies, and some sweet soup called Rommegrot.
The Norwegian choral group, accompanied by Chuck Bentley, pleasured us with some toe tapping numbers.  I knew we had some good singers hidden away in our complex.
Hats off to all who participated in this party.
