Susan Beinfang, Donna Hain and Donna Norton, who served a delicious breakfast of potato eggs, roles and a variety of fruit, were gracious enough to allow us to incorporate a farewell to Dick and Mary Akers.
Several private parties had been thrown for them, but this was from the whole complex.
Word had gotten out that the girls were serving a special meal, so some forty folks showed up for the feast.
The Popeye and Olive Oil poster from the annual party was retrieved, and everyone signed it, as a souvenir.
With no accompaniment, we sang a farewell song to them, and those who did not sing, hummed the tune. The song was called, A Farewell to Dick and Mary, sung to the tune, Have I Told You Lately That I Love You?
Have we told you just how much we'll miss you, as you go back to your other home?
Have we said that Monday nights will be no good without you?
Well neighbors, we're telling you now.
Chorus
Our hearts are breaking just to see you packing. though we know, the time has come for you.
This life is full beyond our comprehension. It's the thing each one of us must do.
We will miss the prayers of dearest Mary, as she trudges off to Mass each morn.
And the hugs from lovable dear Richard. We all love you.
Well neighbors, we're telling you more.
Chorus. Our hearts are breaking...
Dom in oes won't seem the same without you, as you sip your glass of wine so sweet.
Loyalty is cherished by the ladies of the complex, who'll try to fill your empty seat.
Chorus. Our hearts are breaking...
Who will be the table pool new champion, as the men all gather just upstairs?
They will talk about the champ who really came before them. Well neighbors, we're leaving you there.
Chorus. Our hearts are breaking...
The end.
Dick and Mary will be sorely missed here in the complex. Who knows? Perhaps they will drop in on us some winter morning when the weather gets too cold for them up there in North Dakota.
