Cactus Party at the Norton's
We keep telling you that the Village @ Apache Wells is the best kept secret in Arizona. Proof of that statement was the lighting the cactus party held at Earl and Donna Norton's. Ever since the Nortons had that beautiful Saguaro planted in their front yard, it has been an awesome sight in the community. This year they hosted their third annual lighting of the cactus. Pat and Debbie Finnegan did the honors as the crowd of fifty did the count down. Neighbors gathered, bringing their own chairs and drinks. As the sun went down and darkness descended, the switch was thrown. Shazam! Let there be light. We all toasted with just a sip of champagne. And then in the stillness, someone started singing: "We wish you a Merry Christmas, we wish you a Merry Christmas, we wish you a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year." Just then the Pizza Man arrived, compliments of Earl and Donna, with enough pizza to feed the entire community.
Special guests were Bea Lingle, her daughter Cathleen and son-in-law Bob. The trio were in town on business for a few days, just in time for a few parties. It was wonderful to see them. Bea doesn't look a day older than when she left us last year. She had the cutest haircut. She reminded me of a female Peter Pan.
Also visiting this past week were former residents Jim and Lois Hopkins. They spent time with us, as well as Jim;'s family in Scottsdale. Lois gave up an afternoon of her precious time, to come to the clubhouse and accompany some old time singers for fun. It was a wonderful afternoon for all ten involved. Jim and Lois were also able to attend a beautiful memorial service and luncheon for Jan Patton who had passed away recently.
Can you see why we say we are the best kept secret in Arizona? Even those who have left us take every opportunity they can to return.
Merry Christmas
Mary.
