No doubt you have all heard me boast this, but it stands repeating. "The
Village of Apache Wells is the best kept secret in Arizona." We who live
here, either full time or during the winter months, know this to be a
fact. The camaraderie existing here is like no other place in the
valley.
Recently, Roger and I were privileged to be part of the committee who
hosted the Caribbean Adventure, the annual end of the year village party.
Though we had been acquainted with Al and Clare Manz for a number of
years, Jim and Shirley Mootz, Dick and Raejean Warren, and Jiggs
and Cam Maynard were more recent acquaintances. However, they
included us two oldtimers in all their plans and activities. Our
chairman Jim, held numerous well conducted meetings, bringing us
up to date on recent developments. He made each get-togethe a fun
time, even making crepe paper flowers on a Sunday afternoon, in
lieu of watching his favorite team on T.V. And Shirley was always
the perfect hostess, making everyone feel comfortable.
We shared recipes, ideas, a few nips of the Maynard's
Rum Punch, and even a story or two.
If you have never been part of a committee for any party held in the
winter, don't hesitate to join. Half of the fun is in the planning. You
will have plenty of laughs and a bonding of new and old friendships.
You will find that most everyone in the complex is eager to lend
whatever you ask for, even to the point of their artificial fruit right
off their cupboard shelves.
We have been part of many party committees over the sixteen years
we have lived here, and have never once been disappointed.
We hope to be part of many more, and if someone comes up
with an idea for the 2011 annual party, just give me a jingle.
We will be glad to help, even if it may be only our
moral support.
